THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client seeks a proactive, results-driven and forward-thinking leader to play a key role in shaping the company for the future. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide both financial and operational support to the company and report on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost-benefit analysis, compliance, and forecasting. The CFO will prepare or direct the preparation of reports which summarize and forecast business activity and the company’s financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings, and cash flow. This is an opportunity to have a significant impact on an already successful company.

This position reports to the Owners.

The CFO will lead financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting to support strategic business goals, improve profitability and cash flow, and build long-term enterprise value. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who leads with humility, integrity, accountability, and respect. You will coach and develop a collaborative team, build a clear roadmap for success, and work closely with leaders across the organization to improve performance, drive growth, and create lasting impact.

By providing clear financial direction and building a strong, accountable team, this role plays a critical part in the company’s continued growth and long-term success.

  • This role wears multiple hats and needs someone who’s a true doer, someone who will jump in, get things done, and move with a sense of urgency.
  • Manages and oversee all aspects of the finance, accounting, HR and IT functions of the company.
  • A key member of the leadership team, providing owners and managers with clear financial information, practical insights, and recommendations so they can make informed decisions and a plan for the future.
  • Make sure the right systems, processes, and controls are in place to keep the business running efficiently and on track. Provide ownership with a clear picture of the company’s financial and operational health, helping the team stay focused on improving cash flow, strengthening performance, and building long-term value.
  • Work closely with ownership and department leaders to set ambitious but realistic financial and operational goals. Track results, measure progress, and help teams stay accountable and focused on achieving their targets.
  • Work closely with operations and leadership to connect the numbers to what is happening on the floor. Provide financial guidance and real-world insights that help improve performance, solve problems, and support future growth.
  • Present business goals and information transparently and explain them in a way which is easily understandable at all levels within the company.
  • Responsible for all fiscal reporting activities for the company including organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, development and monitoring of organizational budgets.
  • Represent the company with banks and other financial institutions, CPAs, attorneys, insurance and benefits providers, and other business stakeholders.
  • Drive the annual forecasting and budgeting process and monthly reporting, and analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide ownership.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Knowledge and understanding of international tax liabilities related to the import/export of parts and provide strategic oversight on complex contracts and financial compliance issues.
  • Ensure the company’s credibility by providing timely, accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Direct and train Accounting and Finance staff, raising awareness and knowledge of accounting and financial related matters and best practices.
  • Manage the banking activities of the Company and coordinate tax planning and preparation with the Ownership and CPA.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have 15+ years’ experience in the manufacturing, industrial and/or distribution industries.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior-level finance positions with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least $50M in annual sales.
  • Privately held or family-owned business experience is a plus.
  • Proven experience assisting operations with inventory management, WIP accounting and BOM.
  • Ownership mentality with a “do what it takes to get the job done” mindset while dedicated to deliver work timely.
  • Must have knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems; Direct experience with ERP systems implementation and integrating reporting.
  • Proven ability in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • Direct experience evaluating and building strong finance and accounting teams.
  • Must be able to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight periods and simultaneously manage several projects. Strong work ethic, e.g., “roll-up your sleeves” leader.
  • Highly focused on execution and results, organized and analytical; initiates as opposed to reacts.
  • Proactive forward-thinker with creative problem-solving skills.
  • Innovative, energetic and is committed to personal growth and development for self and others. Doesn’t take oneself too seriously, can work in a dynamic small company atmosphere without the resources of a large company.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline is required, MBA desired.
  • Accounting designation of CPA, CMA, CGA or equivalent combination of related experience and education is a plus but not required.
