THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client has successfully grown their company for several decades with employees across the world. They identified the need for an experienced Human Resource leader as they plan for succession that ensures business continuity. The Director of HR will provide overall human resource leadership and management for the company. This position will partner with the “C-suite” to manage and build upon the Human Resource department and function, as well as maintain the company culture as they continue to grow. The Director of HR will have an integral seat at the table and will be a visible and value-added partner for the company’s leadership and its people.

This position reports to and will be a trusted advisor to the Vice President with 2 direct reports.

JOB DEFINITION

Our client desires a leader that will be viewed and embraced as the “People’s Person”; providing consultative support to the executive leaders as well as deliver a people-focused experience for all employees of the company. Leading with humility and integrity, the ideal candidate will be passionate about a culture built upon taking care of its people. In alignment with the companies’ entrepreneurial culture, the candidate will be humble, respectful, hands-on, honest, adaptable and responsible (“owns it”).  This position will be responsible for the management of the company’s HR policies, procedures and ensure compliance with all state and federal regulatory agencies. The Director of HR must be a “blue-collar” working leader, accustomed to working 50% of the time on tactics and 50% of the time on strategy.

SKILLS

With a solution-minded and common-sense approach, this position will partner with the executive team to deliver value added HR services that aid in the achievement of companywide objectives, including management of all compliance related activities, onboarding/training for all employees, providing guidance and input on department operational planning and workforce development.

Leadership and Management:

  • Responsible for HR functions including but not limited to recruiting and hiring, onboarding and training new employees, employee retention, payroll, compensation and salary planning, employment terminations, administration tasks/record keeping, benefit and 401k administration, documentation of role descriptions, employee engagement activities and the development and tracking of all state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Provide an employee-oriented high-performance culture that emphasizes integrity, teamwork, empowerment, quality and productivity.
  • Develop and lead a “people strategy” that provides a human resource function that meets the company’s growth plans in the immediate and long term while maintaining the company’s culture.
  • Must provide effective management of both in-person and remote team members, managing a hybrid team.
  • Manage and implement an effective onboarding and training program that meets the regulatory compliance and competencies required for all functions and in departments.
  • Work with the leadership to develop/implement a succession planning system that includes individual assessment and a career management/development system.
  • Develop and implement a talent management strategy to ensure that the company attracts, retains and develops their employees to achieve growth objectives.
  • Foster an open-door policy where all employees feel comfortable seeking counsel from and working with HR.
  • Identify and ensure legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR function, i.e., OSHA, EEO, ERISA, INS, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, etc.
  • Direct the preparation of information requested or required for legal compliance and approve all information submitted.
  • Manage communication for all companywide announcements, programs and policies.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in Director level human resources management positions with the day-to-day operations of an organization of at least $75M in annual sales.
  • Global and multi-site / multi-location experience.
  • Experience in a highly regulatory industries; DOD contracts, Facilities Security and Governmental Compliance is highly preferred.
  • A leader with gravitas and an executive presence with the ability to effectively influence and drive change across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability interacting with and influence all levels of an organization with an open, honest and respectful communication style tailored to the audience.
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills with ability to present views in a clear and compelling manner and develop trust.
  • Strong work ethic, project management and organizational skills.
  • High energy, reliable and resourceful with the capability to quickly take control of responsibilities and establish themselves as a credible strategic business partner.
  • Have an entrepreneurial flair, a passion for tactical business execution and thrive in an action-packed growth-fueled atmosphere.
  • Roll-up your sleeves hands-on leader/manager, focused on team building and alignment.
  • Must be process oriented, resourceful and creative, possessing the ability to work with patience, perseverance, and persuasiveness.
  • Must have a sense of humor.
  • Must understand that business situations are more complex; there are multiple perspectives, potential outcomes and encourage a more nuanced approach to understand how management should deal with and address employee’s situation/issues.
  • Requires approximately 20% travel.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Human Resource Management, Business or Industrial Relations is required
  • MBA/MHR/MS is preferred.
