THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is seeking a Chief Information Officer. The CIO will be responsible for all firm technology, information management, and cyber-security. This is a high-level management position that will play a crucial role ensuring that the firm’s technological infrastructure and systems support its core operations. Our client’s C-Suite is very well integrated and works well together. Cultural fit and personality fit is a must. The ideal candidate will be hungry, competent, driven, and a joy to work with. They are looking for someone who is equally competent and knowledgeable about technology and cyber security. This is an opportunity to lead and shape the firm’s strategy, aligning it to business objectives and influencing the overall direction and success. This position reports to the President/Chief Executive Officer.

JOB DEFINITION

The CIO will help to define and implement an IT strategy that aligns with the firm’s business goals while considering the unique requirements and challenges of the industry. They will ensure the secure and organized storage of critical documents, client information, and other sensitive data. They will prioritize the protection of the firm’s data against breaches, unauthorized access, and cyber threats by implementing robust security protocols, regular audits, and staff training. The CIO will oversee the day-to-day operations of the IT department, ensuring smooth operations, system uptime, and efficient issue resolution. This is a multi-faceted role that requires a strategic and proactive mindset.

SKILLS

The CIO’s role will be vital, ensuring that technology effectively supports the firm in its client work while maintaining the highest standards of data security and compliance.

  • Oversight of cybersecurity defenses, including dual authentication software, anti-virus software, IDS & IPS systems, CrowdStrike software, monitoring and auditing passwords, and administrator accounts.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans and practices to ensure the firm can operate and access critical systems and data in case of emergencies.
  • Oversee the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions and investments that offer both value and critical protection to the firm.
  • Evaluate, select, implement, and maintain software, technology, and tools.
  • Responsible for onsite and offsite servers and cloud services working with outsourced partners.
  • Ensure the firm’s IT systems and procedures comply with federal regulatory requirements and protections.
  • Implement tools to gather data and analytics on the performance of IT systems, user engagement, and technology ROI. Use this data to refine strategies and make informed decisions.
  • Understand service group needs to ensure they are efficient and protected.
  • Ensure staff and other employees receive adequate training in IT systems and tools. Offer consistent support to maximize efficiency and utilization. Implement avenues for feedback allowing for improvement.
  • Ensure that the firm has the infrastructure to support remote work, including video conferencing tools, collaborative platforms, and secure remote access solutions.
  • When implementing new systems or processes, oversee the change management process to ensure a smooth transition, minimize disruptions, and achieve user adoption.
  • Oversight, maintenance, purchasing/leasing, and auditing of all firm hardware (from laptops to monitors to peripheral devices).
  • Management of phone systems, Zoom systems, conference room technology (monitors, projectors, smart TVs, etc.), and internet connectivity. Oversight of cabling, wireless technology, and internet service.
  • Engage and manage relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and consultants to ensure the firm gets the best value and service.
  • Help to build out new offices and office expansions/renovations (IT and cabling, etc.)
  • Manage the internal team members serving the 24-hour Help Desk
  • Stay updated on the latest trends, innovations, and best practices in the IT world including new technologies, software, and hardware.
  • Participate in technology forums, conferences, and workshops. Engage with peers to share insights, challenges, and best practices.

 

Leadership and Management:

The CIO will lead a matrixed team of insourced and outsourced IT professionals that provide IT Services throughout the firm.

  • Set a clear vision for the IT department.
  • Hire, train, and lead IT talent ensuring the department is staffed with skilled professionals. Provide direction and guidance for IT operations, administration, and staff. Encourage professional growth within the IT department.
  • Ensure the team has clearly defined roles and the resources and support needed to succeed.
  • Set clear expectations and conduct regular performance reviews providing constructive feedback.
  • Work to ensure that the IT department’s culture and values align with those of the firm. Helping to achieve cohesive operations and fostering a sense of unity within the organization.
  • Regularly communicate and meet with stakeholders in the firm regarding IT initiatives, updates, and policies to ensure alignment and buy-in.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • At least seven years of information/technology leadership.
  • Broad experience in IT infrastructure, applications, security, and project management.
  • Understanding of IT governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Knowledge of current security threats, data protection regulations, and best practices.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing IT strategies that align with business goals.
  • Collaborative, hard-working, excellent communicator who is collegial and innovative.
  • Experience leading and managing an IT group within a professional services firm is required.

 

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, or business administration. Master’s degree preferred.
