THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is looking for an experienced financial leader who will play an integral part in continuing the growth and profitability of the company.  The CFO will be an essential part of the management  team and  will act as a liaison, partnering with the management team providing consultative and strategic support. The CFO will prepare reports which summarize and forecast business activity, planning initiatives and financial information analyses by delivering recommendations in a manner that is concise and collaborative.  The CFO will manage the accounting and financial activities as well as function as the chief financial spokesperson for the organization.  Reporting directly to the President/Owner on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting.

This position reports to the President/Owner and will have four (4) direct reports.

SKILLS

This position will directly manage all matters as they relate to finance, accounting, budget management, cost benefit analysis, return on investment, return on equity, return on capital employed and forecasting. S/he will actively partner with the management team to provide strategic insight that aids in optimizing the company, its culture, people and their processes.

  • Develop, in collaboration with the President/Owner an annual financial plan, manage financial capital, and communicate capital requirements and implications of business decisions within the leadership team.
  • Develop strong relationships by ensuring continuous lines of communication are forged within the management team by providing consultative financial support, analysis, insights and advice in a manner that assures business decisions are made with timely, accurate, and relevant information.
  • Conduct meaningful analysis to improve financial and global operational processes focusing on management of working capital and use of financial resources.
  • Ensure the company has the proper financial controls and resources, administrative and reporting procedures to meet operational and financial targets; Communicate in a manner that ensures the company’s focus on creation of enterprise value through cash flow management and optimizing financial operations.
  • Establish and implement necessary internal/external processes and key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Source and deploy capital as appropriate for the business objectives of the company; Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the Company’s needs. Analyze cash flow, cost controls and expenses to guide the President/Owner.
  • Assess and manage the principal risks of the company within operations (proposals, projects, and staffing), to ensure compliance with company, regulatory and other standards. Represent the company domestically with customers, investors, banks and other financial institutions, CPAs, attorneys, insurance and benefits providers, and other business stakeholders.
  • Drive the annual forecasting and budgeting process and monthly reporting. Proactively manage cash flows in a leveraged and highly cyclical environment. Monitor banking activities of the company.
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the company.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Knowledge and understanding of international tax liabilities related to the import/export of parts. Provide strategic oversight on complex contracts, financial compliance issues and other Government reporting requirements.
  • Ensure Company credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Lead the finance/accounting team by developing and coaching existing team members and hiring talent when needed. Management of IT services.
  • Foster a success-oriented, results driven and accountable environment within the finance team.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have 15 plus years of experience working as a Chief Financial Officer or Vice President of Finance.
  • Outstanding knowledge and understanding of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance and SEC reporting.
  • Financial acumen and related analysis skills, including P&L, budget planning and creation, understanding pricing strategies and the ability to create accurate revenue forecasting models.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing financial strategy and supporting budget plan for Merger & Acquisition targets.
  • Proven career history working within a leveraged environment.
  • Global accounting experience a plus, as well as having led ERP system implementations.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and work with cross functional teams consisting of highly skilled and technical employees.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, designers, and global operations/manufacturing teams.
  • Unflappable, high energy and resourceful leader with the ability to take control and establish himself / herself as a credible strategic business partner.
  • Executive presence with the ability to effectively influence and drive change across all levels of the organization.
  • Approachable, solutions-minded and hands-on operationally with continuous development of an effective and empowered team.
  • Develop trust and influence as a senior thought leader with a broad relationship base.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to: present and explain complicated information in a public forum in a clear and concise fashion, leverage negotiation and persuasion skills to maximize customer satisfaction and program success, and deliver difficult messages effectively.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or Business is required, and a Master’s Degree in Business, Finance or Management is highly preferred.
  • Military background is highly preferred but not required.
