THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is looking for an experienced financial leader that will occupy an integral seat at the leadership team level. This newly created position will help to impact the growth objective for the company by organizing and managing the finance/accounting, IT and HR departments, people, processes, and systems. The company culture is committed, dynamic and entrepreneurial.

This position reports to the President and has six (6) direct reports.

JOB DEFINITION

The VP or Finance will provide financial and administrative support to the Company, supervising the financial/accounting activity, Human Resources (HR), and Information Technology (IT) as well as functioning as the financial spokesperson for the organization.  The VP of Finance reports directly to the President on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting.  They will direct the administrative and strategic affairs of the company related to all financial activities; people processes; technology processes and practices.  They will recommend to leadership major financial objectives, processes, and opportunities. The VP of Finance manages and prepares all reports, which summarize and forecast business activity and the company’s financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings, and cash flow and risk based on past, present, and expected operations.

SKILLS

The VP or Finance will be responsible for the day-to-day financial and administrative management of the company.  This includes best practices in accounting, human resources, and IT processes and structure.  They will be an integral part of the leadership team actively presenting and review financial date that educates leadership on the performance of their department(s) and the overall company.

Leadership and Management

     Finance/Accounting:

  • Works with the CEO & President in the development of financial planning & analysis and business models to determine the prospective cost effectiveness, margin analysis and ROI; financial management including developing financial budgets and budget policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with other leaders/managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Analyzes inventory, margins, cash flow, cost controls and expenses to educate and guide business leaders in optimize their departments.
  • Manages all financial reporting activities for the organization including organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, month end closing, monitoring of organizational budgets and reports for CPA’s & banks.
  • Strategically organize and structure the accounting department to optimize business efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manages, develops, and implements finance/accounting, accounts payable & accounts receivable (including collections) and auditing procedures.
  • Develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the Company.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Oversees the timely production of monthly reports as well as financial statements and cash flow projections; Ensures timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Creates, coordinates, and evaluates the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting and planning.
  • Provides recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.

Finance: HR & IT:

  • Manages challenges while adapting to obstacles with agility. Is flexible and adaptable, works comfortably with individuals and teams. Able to effectively build relationships and trust with a wide range of individuals
  • Build a cohesive and high performing team (across all 3 functions: finance, HR and IT). Recruit, mentor, evaluate, motivate all employees to ensure an effective service-oriented, relaxed and fun team environment is built.
  • Manages the HR and IT functions for the company. Works with HR and IT leaders to ensure the business runs smoothly and issues are managed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Establishes and implements short and long-rage goals, objectives and operating procedures for the finance/accounting, IT and HR departments.
  • Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in senior-level finance position with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least $50M in annual sales.
  • Proven creative problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and financial management with vendors and customers.
  • Experience managing HR and IT functions.
  • Proven ability in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • Must have knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and projections.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in a team environment and facilitate group meetings.
  • Track record of leading and setting a course when there is no roadmap and much ambiguity
  • Highly focused, organized, analytical thinker who initiates as opposed to reacts.
  • Successful experience with financial management of labor and operational planning costs.
  • Capable of operating within a disciplined, high quality, growth environment.
  • Demonstrated degree of passion and energy with laser focus on execution and results.
  • Strong Midwestern work ethic; e.g., “roll-up your sleeves” leader, with a proven “take-charge” record of accomplishment.
  • An open, honest, and respectful communication style tailored to the audience. Must be comfortable speaking in public, in both formal and informal settings.

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, and/or Business is required; Master’s Degree or CPA is preferred but not required.
    • Experience with NetSuite ERP System, E-Commerce and Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) a plus.
