THE OPPORTUNITY

The Commercial Director will be a key contributor to the success of the company in North America. They will help lead the development of the overall commercial strategy, optimize the value of the existing portfolio of renewable energy projects, drive customer engagement and exceed customer expectations.

This position reports to the Head of Operations of the North American Central Region.

JOB DEFINITION

This position will identify and execute value-creating commercial opportunities and build relationships with key stakeholders supporting the company’s growth in sustainable distributed energy.

  • Act as an ambassador of excellence for the Company.
  • Lead commercial support activities with a focus on safety and enhancing the value of existing assets.
  • Support and participate in the negotiation of commercial agreements with customers and stakeholders for existing assets and new growth opportunities.
  • Lead the activities related to commercial, contractual and commodity obligations, as well as reporting for the existing portfolio.
  • Maintain and develop a strong interface with customers, partners, regulators, competitors and industry commercial groups.
  • Lead a cross functional team of internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of company commercial objectives.
  • Initiate strategic opportunities for the business using knowledge of market and macro-economic factors.
  • Foster the development of commercial, technical and financial innovation which will provide a competitive advantage.
  • Maintain the customer and stakeholder management and contract archives systems.
  • Lead strategic studies and maintain up-to-date knowledge of market and industry trends.
  • Develop/maintain a comprehensive understanding of the macro market dynamics in the renewable energy and solid waste markets in the Americas, and stay current on broader renewables developments.
  • Create and deliver presentations to company leadership.
  • Lead and coordinate activities related to commercial obligations and optimization of existing energy projects.
  • Perform with a high level of commercial astuteness and ethical integrity.
  • Actively ensure own health and safety and that of others through understanding and implementing workplace health, wellness and safety obligations.
  • Support and comply with company policies and procedures as documented in the employment policies and amended from time to time.
  • In addition to the duties set out above, may be expected to perform other duties appropriate to the level and responsibility of the position as assigned from time to time by the company.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the energy industry that includes a proven track record of success.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within the renewable energy industry.
  • Experience in:
    • Economic and financial modelling in a commercial environment.
    • Market assessment, risk analysis and strategic planning.
    • Regulatory influences and responses in energy markets.
    • Complex contract negotiation, administration and management.
    • Relationship management skills.
  • Domestic and international travel will be required 25%.
  • Relevant academic qualifications in either a business, engineering or scientific discipline.
