THE OPPORTUNITY

The Vice President, Finance will be responsible for and report out on strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting.  The VP, Finance prepares and/or directs preparation of reports, which summarize and forecast business activity and the company’s financial position. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in areas of forecasting, budgeting, financial planning & analysis, income, expenses, earnings and cash flow, and WIP reporting based on past, present, and expected operations.  The position incorporates essential duties and responsibilities that involve review of past performance, management of daily and monthly activities, and active preparation in helping to build the future of the business.

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer with (3) three direct reports.

JOB DEFINITION

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the mission at hand and will actively participate both strategically and tactically in the future visioning of the company.  The VP, Finance will be forward thinking, with proven financial/operational leadership experience with broad cross-functional responsibilities for day-to-day management of the company’s financial operations.  This proactive leader must be highly knowledgeable in manufacturing, fabrication and/or construction environments.  This includes all activity necessary to ensure that the company has the proper personnel and processes to effectively and efficiently create value through the generation of revenue, servicing that revenue through operating activities, and creating economic value from that revenue.  Further, this includes management of internal and external relationships as necessary to assure compliance with regulatory and company standards.  Finally, this includes providing appropriate analysis, insights and advice to the company’s managers and owner in a manner that assures business decisions are made with timely, accurate and relevant information.

The VP, Finance will direct the administrative and strategic affairs of the organization related to all financial activities; recommends to management the objectives, policies and opportunities. The VP, Finance will be an integral part of the management team and will partner with the managers to provide consultative support on planning initiatives through financial information analyses and recommendations. The VP, Finance is responsible for all activities necessary to plan and account for business activity in a manner that will assist the company’s management to make optimal decisions that will create enterprise value.

SKILLS

  • This position will develop, implement and execute aggressive but realistic annual plans targeted to increase accounting and finance efficiencies.
  • Leads the structured financial forecasting and planning process, ensuring the accurate reflection of up-to-date business conditions and that approved and other initiatives are accurately incorporated.
  • Establish and implement necessary internal and external processes and key performance indicators (KPI’s) for the business and for their measurement and effectiveness.
  • Leads the development of strong planning and forecasting capabilities by taking the existing infrastructure, tools and reports, to the next level.
  • Provides guidance to ensure relevant and timely delivery of all financial reporting and planning outputs.
  • Upgrades management reporting; develops business processes and tools to provide accurate, consistent and timely reporting and analysis of business results.
  • Design and monitor dashboards; assess benchmarks to support and drive operational decision-making.
  • Works with COO in management of process, procedure and systems.
  • Improves decision support analysis. Analyzes company performance against targets.  Leads strategic initiatives and projects such as profitability and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Becomes a key contributor in developing, accelerating and implementing simplification on business processes.
  • In conjunction with the COO and other members of the team aiding in the development of improved job costing processes.
  • Pipeline Management to oversee and direct future sales enabling accurate prediction of future revenues.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of progressive experience and leadership in operational finance, financial planning and analysis.
  • Excellent financial reporting; outstanding knowledge and understanding of GAAP experience required.
  • Must have manufacturing, fabrication and/or construction knowledge and experience.
  • Creative problem solver with a highly analytical & challenging mindset, excellent technical and financial knowledge, operationally and business savvy; a strategic and independent thinker, self-confident financial management leader.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate the highest integrity professionally and personally.
  • Able to deliver results in a fast paced, high volume environment with an entrepreneurial culture, where the industry and environment is dynamic.
  • Ability to analyze and present complex information in a clear, relevant and interesting way.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).   Must be able to convey a message that is understandable and relevant, linking business issues, financial results and strategy.  Attention to detail, accuracy, and a hands-on proactive attitude with an “own it” mentality.  Date/time sensitive.
  • High emotional intelligence; strong interpersonal skills that provides ability to interact with the finance staff, company peers and senior management.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; MBA highly preferred.
