Our client is a multi-billion-dollar globally diversified S&P 500 company that designs and manufacturers various engineered components and products for numerous industries worldwide.  Founded over a 100+ years ago, it continues to grow in a rapidly changing environment as a leading manufacturer comprised of fifteen business units with over 100+ facilities worldwide.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is looking for an experienced and innovative transformational leader who will provide the vision and direction to inspire a team of exceptional people to achieve outstanding results in a quickly changing business environment.  This leader must be commercially minded and have deep experience in organizing a business around an integrated value chain and building the capability to support customers with multi-channel distribution, including components sold to OEMs with traditional brick and mortar outlets and native on-line brands with private label finished goods and B2B2C fulfillment capability.  Working as an active member of the Executive Leadership Team, the successful candidate will be instrumental in crafting the company’s future strategic global direction.  This position will lead roughly half the corporation’s overall business.  The prime role for the EVP/President will be focused on developing and implementing a product, pricing and channel management strategy that leverages the business’s unique competitive advantage in a rapidly changing market.

The EVP/President responsibilities will be broad and include managing all of the segment’s operations and key functions. He or she will lead the strategic planning and organizational design and development to build a nimble, market-facing organization.

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and has nine (9) direct reports.

    • Define responsibilities within the organization that establishes processes designed to increase empowerment, improve accountability and meet long-term objectives.
    • Develop the resources needed to effectively meet short and long-term goals.
    • Energize and engage employees by ensuring all employees understand and can execute on the business unit’s strategy and goals.
    • Lead the process of developing and implementing aggressive, but achievable goals targeted to extend the business’s competitive advantage and maximize profitability.

     

    Leadership:

    • Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement strategic plans that promote both top & bottom-line growth.
    • Leverage competitive intelligence to convert data into actionable information that allows the Company to proactively address strengths and weaknesses and competitive opportunities and threats.
    • Develop and implement a strategic plan to advance long-term growth in revenue, profitability, and cash flow.
    • Lead the process of developing the capabilities necessary to optimize the current value chain and increasing market share in attractive verticals.
    • Plan and direct the entire operation, ensuring the development and implementation of cost-effective and efficient processes to meet current and future business requirements.
    • Utilize appropriate organizational and manufacturing process strategies to ensure that “best in class” quality, cost, and timing standards are realized.
    • Implement sales and business development plans and programs, short and long-range, to ensure profitable growth and possible forward integration in the overall value chain.
    • Ensure the smooth functioning of all the operational processes in the company.
    • Work with other segment leadership to effectively implement initiatives and develop/promote diversity and teamwork across the company.

                Management:

    • Leverage market & competitive intelligence; by converting that intelligence into actionable strategies that strengthen the market position and competitive advantage for the overall company.
    • Passionate about coaching, training and developing the team.  Effective at setting, evaluating and inspiring individual and team goals that develop accountability without compromising culture.
    • Proven collaborator; able to leverage individual strengths to provide value to the entire team.
    • Ability to lead/manage director level management on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that maintain and maximize the overall effectiveness of the total operation.
    • Ensure all leaders are fully informed of operational objectives.
    • Set operational and/or performance goals which are aggressive, achievable and tied to long-term strategy.
    • Monitor business performance to ensure that progress is being made within the organization.
    • Report on current and long-term objectives to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, and master’s degree in business, finance or management is preferred.
  • Must have 10+ years of experience managing a P&L of $3 billion as a President, Executive Vice President, Segment President or Senior Vice President.
  • Proven track record of successfully growing revenue while maintaining required profitability metrics.
  • Financial acumen and related analysis skills, including P&L, budget planning and creation, understanding pricing strategies and the ability to create highly accurate sales and revenue forecasting models.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach senior-level leaders to manage and develop high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead highly skilled cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, including executive presence and the ability to establish and maintain rapport / trust with stakeholders at a variety of levels, both internal and external to the company.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to: present and explain complicated information in a public forum in a clear and concise fashion, leverage negotiation and persuasion skills to maximize customer satisfaction and program success, and deliver difficult messages effectively.
  • Overachiever who is dedicated, passionate, fun, organized and willing to get the job done and is adaptable to a well-developed team.
  • Must be articulate, resourceful, and creative, possessing the ability to work with and adapt to all kinds of people.  Must be patient, persistent, and persuasive. Strong work ethic; e.g. “roll-up your sleeves” leader.
  • 20-30% travel is required to offsite meetings on behalf of company to interact with customers as necessary.
