As a world leader in composite solutions, our client creates lightweight materials to help their customers meet design and regulatory challenges. Through their growing global network and parent company, they offer advanced material options not available anywhere else; with a fully supportive engineering, design and manufacturing expertise. Their capabilities span North American and include molding of Class A body panels, battery carriers, pickup boxes, underbody shields and structural components for the vehicle market. Material capabilities range from a variety of advanced glass to carbon fiber composites.  Several of their manufacturing facilities have prime and/or top coat finishing capabilities. Their customers include industrial OEMs, automotive, non-automotive, agriculture, heavy and medium duty truck, construction, Tier 1 suppliers and other custom molders throughout the US, Mexico, Canada and Turkey.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This challenging opportunity is the “life blood” of the organization. In this leadership role, the Manager will be expected to pull a team together using techniques that will influence positivity and motivation. The Manager, Materials will work with Production and Operations Managers to develop production plans and forecasts. This demanding opportunity will have heavy customer interface and be responsible for nearly 1M square feet of operations housing a myriad of manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will have an appreciation of the big picture and overall operational protocol.

This position reports to the Plant Manager and will have seven (7) direct reports, twenty (20) indirect reports.

JOB DEFINITION

An entrepreneurial spirit and technical understanding are critical. By putting in place organized methodologies and metrics, beyond what is used today, the Manager, Materials will direct the material flow and logistics for multiple interdependent sites. The Manager will operate with empowerment and is responsible for material oversight, purchasing and customer interface to ensure materials are procured to maintain a level of customer satisfaction. Must have strong ERP skills. Successful candidates will have a deep understanding of how to communicate with the customer, have a solid business acumen and must be willing to roll up their sleeves and be part of the solution.

SKILLS

Oversee a $250M operation, manage a $1M inventory and meet/exceed customer expectations.

Ensure customer satisfaction: Supervise day to day activities, anticipate customer requirements, maintain good relationships and manage the launch of new programs within the plant; inclusive of customer accountability / responsibility.

Direct a multidisciplinary logistics team and set strategy to meet material objectives.

Ensure adequate staffing, training and development of team members.

Assure the delivery of the master scheduling plan with Plant Manager, improve & enhance performance and relationships of suppliers and logistics partners.

Monitor logistics performance and implement necessary improvement actions in coordination with other plant functions (materials, shipping, inventory, vendors).

Oversee the MRO function in the preparation and issuance of purchase orders for products and services that are used to maintain and fix broken machines within the plant to improve operational performance

Support key process improvement initiatives.

Work closely with business leaders to position the business for future growth, product transition and capacity expansion.

Demonstrate leadership by establishing credibility, acting with integrity, showing and inspiring commitment, recruiting and retaining top talent as well as motivating and guiding the team to achieve strategic objectives & goals.

Leverage expertise and know-how to improve material management critical processes.

Create an environment that minimizes non-conforming material including sourcing for quality, the timely assessment of vendor / supplier quality programs, capabilities and process controls.

Work effectively with operations and supply chain management to ensure the timely delivery of components, subassemblies, materials and services with best total cost and quality.

Ensure effective regional operational and budget controls.

As a leader, must uphold and live the tenets of the company charter, quality policy & practices, high safety and environmental standards. Must understand and respect the laws and cultures in the countries in which the company conducts business.

Ensure data integrity of all managerial reports.

Responsible for relevant goal attainment on a global/regional basis.

Work with supply chain management organization to improve service.

Work with supplier quality development to ensure that supplier quality issues are dealt with in a timely manner and that all suppliers are developed to meet the needs of the company.

Work together with purchasing operations to ensure supply base capacities are understood and proactively managed.

Responsible for vendor management for thirty (30) + vendors.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

10-15 years of experience in increasingly complex management positions for multiple sites within the automotive industry.

Must have experience with UAW.

APICS Certificationand at a minimum with CPIM (Certified Professional in Inventory Management).

Broad knowledge of quality systems including, TS, ISO, continuous improvement, Kaizen, 5-S, lean manufacturing, KANBAN, etc.

ERP knowledge.

Experience with launching new products.

Must be able to manage multiple assignments at the same time.

Must have experience managing budgets.

Able to work effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, designers and contractors.

Computer literate, ability to use and leverage modern manufacturing and office software; Microsoft Excel Expert.

Ability to develop and implement relevant strategic objectives to attain organizational objectives.

High energy and resourceful with the capability to quickly take control of responsibilities and establish himself / herself as a credible leader.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Strong entrepreneurial spirit.

Superb business acumen.

Exceptional customer focus, confident and able to manage / direct customer relationships.

Team builder, ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
