THE COMPANY

For over half a century our privately held client is a recognized leader in their industry. Providing low volume manufacturing for the heavy / specialty truck and defense industries, they supply their customers all over the country with two locations in Southeastern Michigan. Their capabilities include: fabricating, precision laser cutting, turret punching, press brake forming, stamping, welding, machining and assembly with various alloys including stainless steel, aluminum and high strength steels. Approaching 100 employees, they maintain inventory and provide JIT delivery for their long term, legacy customers. Their non-union facilities support two shifts focused on growth and total product excellence.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Chief Financial Officer reports directly to President on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting. The CFO will direct the administrative and strategic affairs of the organization related to all financial activities; recommends to executive management major economic objectives, policies and opportunities. The CFO prepares or directs preparation of reports, which summarize and forecast business activity and the company’s financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings and cash flow based on past, present, and expected operations. The position incorporates essential duties and responsibilities that involve review of past performance, management of daily and monthly activities and active preparation in helping to build the future of the business. The CFO will be an integral part of the executive management team and will actively participate in the future visioning of the company as it grows both organically and strategically. The CFO will partner with the executive team to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial information analyses and recommendations.

JOB DEFINITION

Leads a strategic and structured financial forecasting and planning process, ensuring the accurate reflection of up-to-date business conditions and that approved and other initiatives are accurately incorporated.

The position reports to the President

Three (3) direct reports including:  Senior Accountant, Accounting Clerk, HR Manager.

Leads a strategic and structured financial forecasting and planning process, ensuring the accurate reflection of up-to-date business conditions; and that approved and other initiatives are accurately incorporated.

Leads the development of strong planning and forecasting capabilities by taking the existing infrastructure, tools and reports, to the next level.

Provides guidance to ensure relevant and timely delivery of all financial reporting and planning outputs.

Upgrades management reporting; develops business processes and tools to provide accurate, consistent and timely reporting and analysis of business results.

Designs, presents, and monitors dashboards; assess benchmarks to support and drive strategic & operational decision-making.

Develops monthly report deck for senior management.

Improves decision support analysis. Analyzes company performance against targets.

Leads strategic initiatives and projects such as competitor analysis, product line profitability and cost improvement initiatives.

Becomes a key contributor in developing, accelerating and implementing simplification on business processes.

Supports evaluation of new business opportunities and risks through scenario modeling and financial analysis.

Analyzes potential merger and acquisition opportunities and other financial analysis projects that may be assigned.

Primary oversight of IT department.

-Ability to provide and communicate executive level presentations.
-Attention to detail, accuracy, and a hands-on proactive attitude.
-Superior technical skills and have the potential to assume greater responsibilities, both within and outside the function.

BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE

-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline is required.
-MBA, Master’s degree, or advanced financial certification is highly desirable.
-10+ years of progressive experience and leadership in operational finance, financial planning and analysis.
-Excellent financial reporting experience required.
-Industry knowledge and experience is a plus.
-Advanced skills in Microsoft Office is required.
