The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced operational leader that will play a key role in continuing to create a best-in-class business. The ideal candidate must have distinguished themselves within a service-oriented industry. The CEO will be responsible for the overall leadership of this business segment. This leader’s responsibilities will be broad and include aggressive implementation of both strategic and tactical objectives. The desired candidate will plan, execute, and coordinate the segment’s ability to deliver results that impact the top and bottom lines. The CEO must be dedicated to developing people and be comfortable working in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.

Self-motivated and extremely hands-on, the CEO must possess the ability to integrate cross-functional/matrixed teams in a multi-state and multi-site business structure. The ideal candidate will be a results-driven, high-energy, and collaborative leader who is capable of aligning teams around a shared vision of achieving needle-moving performance objectives.

This position reports to the Holding Company Board of Directors and has seven (7) direct reports.

Job Definition

This position calls for a CEO that will actively participate both strategically and tactically while helping to execute the current and future strategies of the segment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and proven leader with a strong commercial and financial understanding with broad cross-functional responsibilities. The CEO will be part of a highly collaborative Executive Leadership Team and as such, must have the integrity, insight, and substance to act on behalf of the well-being of the segment. This includes management of internal and external relationships as necessary to assure alignment and compliance with segment-defined standards.


CEO will define and implement plans focused on optimizing the segment’s results. They will implement executable recommendations that include all activities necessary to ensure that the segment exceeds both top and bottom-line results.

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the segment by managing the development, communication, and implementation of a Business Management System.
  • Manage the strategic and tactical direction of the entire operation, ensuring the highest levels of operational effectiveness are supported and achieved within the segment’s leadership team.
  • Advise the Board of Directors on key planning issues and make recommendations on important business decisions.
  • Create Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that maintain and maximize the overall effectiveness of the segment.
  • Promote a success-oriented, accountable environment that nurtures an atmosphere of cooperation, communication, and synergy between the business segment and all other entities.
  • Mentor and coach the existing leadership team. Organize resources to get things done, while using them effectively and efficiently. Set clear expectations, design practical processes and procedures that ensure accountability through a workable performance management system.
  • Oversee strategic planning and budgeting processes in collaboration with the Holding Company.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Manage the implementation of communication policies with staff, customers, channel partners, and vendors.
  • Responsible for personnel planning, staffing requirements, employee training, and designing organizational structures to ensure optimum productivity.
  • Responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of marketing and sales initiatives to ensure growth and profitability.
  • Work with sales team to create an integrated approach for expansion of market opportunities by service type and customer.

  • Build a team. Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and motivate all employees to ensure an effective service-oriented team environment is built.
  • Ensure all department heads are fully informed of operational objectives and ensure accountability for the achievement of results throughout the segment. Conducts regular meetings with department heads to ensure that priorities are clear, and coordination is best in class.
  • Solve problems with a logical and systematic approach. Anticipate the implications and consequences of situations, take appropriate actions, and analyze strengths and weaknesses.
  • Demonstrate a progressive style that actively promotes team involvement with an emphasis on motivating, mentoring, and innovation while inspiring action to achieve results.
  • Develop and implement process improvements that optimize the entire segment, i.e., project management, labor control, cost accounting, buying, and inventory management.

Background Experience

  • Experience executing a high-growth strategy focused on improving EBITDA and maximizing ROI.
  • Experience with services, trades, or retail industries.
  • Successful experience with financial management and P&L.
  • Detail-oriented with strong strategic leadership and project management skills; Proven track record of leading and setting a course when there is no roadmap and much ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated analytical, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Highly focused, organized, analytical thinker who initiates as opposed to reacts; Proven creative problem-solving skills with a drive to create solutions.
  • Proven ability to influence with an approachable style that inspires confidence and empowerment within the teams.
  • Strongly demonstrated leadership and communication skills involving employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated degree of passion and energy with a laser focus on execution and results.

  • Establish, integrate, and manage new systems, procedures, and controls.
  • Provide direction, development, and leadership for all operational departments.
  • Development of an operational strategy with underlying objectives; defines responsibilities within the team.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, or management required.
  • MBA highly preferred
