The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced accounting and financial leader that will occupy an integral seat at the leadership team level. This newly created position will help to impact the growth objective for the company by organizing and managing the accounting and finance department; people, processes, and systems.

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and has two(2) direct reports.

Job Definition

The Director of Accounting will provide financial, HR and IT support to the Company, supervising the accounting and financial activity, HR, and IT as well as functioning as the financial spokesperson for the organization. The Director of Accounting reports directly to the President & Chief Operating Officer on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting. The Director of Accounting will direct the administrative and strategic affairs of the organization related to all financial activities; recommends to leadership major financial objectives, processes, and opportunities. The Director of Accounting manages and prepares all reports, which summarize and forecast business activity and the company’s financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings, and cash flow based on past, present, and expected operations.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:
The Director of Accounting will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial management of the company. The Director of Accounting will be an integral part of the leadership team and will actively participate in the future visioning of the company as it grows both organically and strategically.

Skills

  • Works with the COO & President in the development of financial planning, budgets, and business models to determine the prospective cost effectiveness and ROI; financial management including developing financial budgets and budget policies and procedures.
  • Provides the Owners and leadership team with an operating budget.
  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization.
  • Trains Accounting and Finance staff on raising awareness and knowledge of accounting and financial related matters.
  • Oversees the management and coordination of all financial reporting activities for the organization including organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development, and monitoring of organizational budgets.
  • Strategically organize and structure the accounting department to optimize business efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manages, develops, and implements finance, accounting, accounts payable & accounts receivable (including collections) and auditing procedures.
  • Develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the Company.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Oversees the production of monthly reports as well as financial statements and cash flow projections.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Manages the HR and IT functions for the company. Works with HR and IT service providers to ensure the business runs smoothly and issues are managed and resolved in a timely fashion.
  • Monitors banking activities of the Company; Ensures adequate cash flow to meet the Company’s needs.
  • Analyzes cash flow, cost controls and expenses to guide leaders along with analyzing financial statements.
  • Creates, coordinates, and evaluates the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting and planning.
  • Establishes and implements short and long-rage departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Interacts with other leaders/managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
  • Ensures Company credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Provides recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Works cross functionally with all areas of the business including: sales, inventory, fleet, warehouse, project management and operations.

Background Experience

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in senior-level finance or accounting position sector with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least $80M in annual sales.
  • Proven creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop a financial strategy and support budget plan.
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and financial management with vendors and customers.
  • Experience managing HR and IT functions including the oversight and management of 3rd party vendor providers.
  • Proven ability in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • Must have knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in a team environment and facilitate group meetings.
  • Highly focused, organized, analytical thinker who initiates as opposed to reacts.
  • Successful experience with financial management of labor and operational planning costs.
  • Capable of operating within a disciplined, high quality, growth environment.
  • Demonstrated degree of passion and energy with laser focus on execution and results.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting and/or Business is required; Master’s Degree or CPA is preferred but not required.
