The Challenge

The Chief Financial Officer reports directly to the CEO and Board of Directors on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to GAAP, accounting functions, budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting.  The CFO will direct the administrative and strategic affairs of the organization related to all financial activities; recommends to executive management major economic objectives, policies and opportunities.  The CFO prepares or directs preparation of reports, which summarize and forecast business activity and the company’s financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings and cash flow based on past, present, and expected operations.  The position incorporates essential duties and responsibilities that involve review of past performance, management of daily and monthly activities, and active preparation in helping to build the future of the business.  The CFO will be an integral part of the executive management team and will actively participate in the future visioning of the company as it grows both organically and strategically. The CFO will partner with other members of the executive team to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial information analyses and recommendations

Job Definition

  • This role will have 6+ direct reports.
  • Works with the Executive team in the development of financial planning, budgets and business models to determine the prospective cost effectiveness and ROI.
  • Partners with individuals within the Executive team to provide consultative support to departmental planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports and recommendations.
  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization.
  • Trains Accounting and Finance staff on raising awareness and knowledge of accounting and financial related matters.
  • Oversees the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational budgets.
  • Manages, develops and implements finance, accounting, billing and auditing procedures.
  • Develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the Company.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Oversees the production of monthly reports as well as financial statements and cash flow projections.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly and annual financial key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Establishes and maintains continuity of appropriate program costing models/controls.
  • Monitors banking activities of the Company.
  • Ensures adequate cash flow to meet the Company’s needs.
  • Analyzes cash flow, cost controls and expenses to guide business leaders along with analyzing financial statements.
  • Oversees Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place.
  • Directs the company’s risk management programs and systems to safeguard corporate assets, assures property and liability risks are appropriately insured and legal/contractual relationships do not leave the company with undue risk.
  • Establishes and implements short and long-rage departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.
  • Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Oversees financial management including developing financial budgets and budget policies and procedures.
  • Ensures Company credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Provides recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.

Background Experience

  • A Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting designation is required; CPA preferred but not required.
  • Experience working for a private equity backed company or in a multi-site/business unit environment preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in senior-level finance or accounting position sector with the day-to-day financial operations of an organization of at least $100M in annual sales.
  • Proven creative problem solving skills with a “take-charge” record of accomplishment.
  • Ability to develop a financial strategy and supporting budget plan.
  • Successful experience leading the migration of legacy systems.
  • Proven ability in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • Must have knowledge of automated (ERP) financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in a team environment and facilitate group meetings.
  • Highly focused, organized, analytical thinker who initiates as opposed to reacts. 
  • Successful experience with financial management of labor and operational planning costs.
  • Demonstrated degree of passion and energy with laser focus on execution and results.
