This role is responsible for the management of an existing portfolio of property & casualty clients.  The Vice President, Client Services will be accountable for creating and maintaining accounts of new and existing clients. The Vice President, Client Services will manage the renewal process on a risk-by-risk basis to maintain and grow a profitable book of business.

Portfolio Management:

  • Manage a high functioning & comprehensive team of P&C account professionals.
  • Works within the executive team to effectively implement joint initiatives, develops and promote teamwork across the organization.
  • Must be recognized by employees as an approachable “executive” who understands the value of teamwork to increase productivity and overall portfolio’s performance.
  • Consults with all levels of internal and external partners regarding policy and practice.
  • Consults with team to develop experience, understanding and expertise in each situation to make the best possible decisions for a client.
  • Works with existing insurance carrier relationships to ensure the voice of the client is understood.
  • Assist in the production of new personal lines accounts and retention of renewing personal lines account.
  • Review client exposures, loss experience and current coverage and provide proactive solutions, recommend appropriate products and services.
  • Perform annual reviews and meetings with client providing stewardship reports, schedules and proposals of insurance.
  • Responsible for handling client service requests and look for new sales opportunities by cross-selling.
  • Proficient knowledge of the products and services that are offered to the clients.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support the service needs of a large client base.
  • Handle renewals, process changes, endorsements, riders and cancellations.

Background Experience

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated decision-making ability required in day-to-day portfolio management, where there may be unclear or competing priorities, including evaluating and recommending solutions to customer service issues, work processing issues, underwriting selection and rating problems, and best practices compliance. Ability to reach a solution in situations where there may be multiple options or competing priorities. Must possess strong analytical skills and drive for results.


  • Bachelors’ degree in business administration, insurance, risk management, economics or finance is required.  MBA is preferred; Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and other certifications are highly desired.
  • 10 – 15 years of managing an existing portfolio within the property & casualty insurance services.
  • Proven knowledge of property & casualty insurance; guidelines and strategies, agency distribution strategy, reinsurance program parameters, enterprise risk appetite statements and risk tolerance levels, etc.
  • Proven experience in evaluating and managing risk acceptance and evaluation process based on assigned underwriting authority level. Selects and oversees acceptable risks to quote and bind, and rejects business that is unacceptable. Reviews and approves underwriting decisions of staff. Ensures compliance to legal requirements and organizational, business and strategic objectives. Ensures that underwriting decisions support the growth and profit strategy of the company.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of commercial underwriting best practices, field underwriting operations and day-to-day underwriting operational needs.
  • Knowledge of insurance financial and accounting statement and basic actuarial principles.
  • Organizing and influencing within a highly matrixed organization; working cross functionally to ensure goal alignment and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability; motivate and hold others accountable. The ideal candidate will have a blended leadership approach of a manager with an entrepreneurial flair.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Exceptional knowledge of PC’s. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take quick action and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to handle change, pressure and criticism.
