The Challenge

As the company has evolved and grown over the past decade, our client seeks an innovative and dynamic leader to play a key executive role in the development and implementation of operational strategies for exceeding customer expectations and achieving company goals and objectives.  This person will work with the executive management team to align operational performance and outputs with the goal of doubling revenues within the next ten years.  He or she is responsible for enhanced corporate profitability through the attainment of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and other initiatives.

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President/CFO, with six (6) direct reports.

Job Definition

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and proven operations leader with responsibility for day-to-day operations of the company.  This leader must be highly knowledgeable in manufacturing environments and an expert in Lean manufacturing principles.  He or she is responsible for multi-facility activities related to Manufacturing, Engineering, Production Planning & Scheduling, Quality and Maintenance departments.

Operations Management:

  • Consists of Six (6) direct reports including:  Director of Engineering, Quality & Continuous Improvement; Plant Manager; Operations Manager; Production Supervisor; Materials Scheduling & Planning Manager; Skills Trade Supervisor.
  • Will provide direction and planning for all manufacturing operations, including budget and P&L responsibilities.
  • Works with Human Resources to hire, train and evaluate plant personnel.
  • Will work closely with executive management team to establish long-range operating goals and expansion.
  • Will ensure that manufacturing capabilities and performance are aligned with industry expectations and manufacturing outputs support customer requirements for quality, delivery, cost, and growth.
  • Will establish and maintain all operations policies and systems, ensuring effective deployment of these policies and systems.
  • Will be a seasoned executive with proven ability to select, lead, and support the development of people.
  • Will be an approachable leader who understands the value of teamwork and will motivate the team to maximum productivity and overall operational performance.
  • Will direct and/or oversee multiple product launches toward timely implementation, within budget, and within or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Will lead and manage a safe working environment.
  • Will act to ensure and maintain employee morale and welfare.  Provides consistent, on-going, comprehensive employee communications including but not limited to goal attainment, continuous improvement initiatives, customer satisfaction, and overall company performance.
  • Will be responsible for the overall maintenance, housekeeping and security of facilities, grounds and equipment.
  • Will work with team to develop and implement KPI’s to enhance customer perception and maximize corporate profitability.
  • Will manage the financial performance of all operations towards the successful achievement of the annual budget and profit plan.

Background Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; MBA/MS preferred.
  • 10+ years within metal manufacturing; automotive and industrial industry experience is preferred in a company with sales of at least $50 million.
  • 10+ years’ experience in senior manufacturing management, multi-site background.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality systems including; continuous improvement, Kaizen, 5-S, lean manufacturing, KANBAN, SMED, etc.
  • Experience in interpreting program profitability and managing budgets.
  • Able to work effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, designers and contractors.
  • Ability to develop and implement relevant operational objectives that align with organizational strategy and objectives.
  • High energy and resourceful leader with the ability to take control and establish him or herself as a credible strategic business partner.
  • Executive presence with the ability to effectively influence and drive change across all levels of the organization.
  • Approachable and hands-on operationally with continuous development of an effective and empowered team.
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills with ability to present views in a clear and compelling manner.  Develop trust and influence as a senior thought leader with a broad relationship base.
  • Comfortable interacting with and influencing senior level executives.
  • Superb business acumen with strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Self-confident, willing to work hard to get the job done and a team builder.  Ability to motivate team to successful accomplishment of goals.
