The Challenge

Having grown the business from zero to a highly viable operation, ownership is now positioned to take on a President to lead and manage the business to the next stage of growth.  With a powerhouse brand, our client is looking for an experienced and innovative leader that will play an integral part in growing the company. The President will be responsible for the leadership and ultimate day-to-day operations for the company.  This leader’s responsibilities will be broad and include managing all operations either directly, or through internal department heads.  The successful candidate must be extremely hands-on and possess the ability to lead the company while working hand in hand with ownership.  A successful background will be weighed heavily in the food manufacturing industry or food distribution / wholesale experience.

Job Definition

  • Position reports to the Owners, and will have 4-5 direct reports.
  • The ideal candidate is thoughtful, calm and fun in high stress situations with an ability to inspire the Management Team.  As a growing company in an expanding industry, the President should be comfortable to lead and set a course when there is no roadmap and much ambiguity.
  • Work with the Plant Manager, Director-Sales and Controller/CFO to formulate and administer company financial and costing policy.
  • Ensure all department heads are fully informed of sales and operational objectives.
  • Conduct regular meetings with department heads to ensure that priorities are clear and coordination is good.
  • Proven ability to influence with an approachable style that inspires confidence within the management team.

  • Plan, direct and manage the entire operation, ensuring the development and implementation of cost-effective and efficient processes to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Responsible for short and long term strategic planning, budgets, expense control, formulating goals, market objectives and targets that identify and advance on trends and industry changes effecting the professional growth of the entire organization.
  • Must be able to communicate job expectations internally; plan, monitor, appraise, and review job contributions; plan and review compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures. ‚Äč
  • Set operational and / or performance goals for each department which are aggressive, achievable and tied to long-term goals.
  • Monitor department performance against performance goals to ensure that progress is being made.
  • Ability to retrieve and analyze data from the current Information Systems.  Must have a passion for meaningful analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to create Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and incentives that maintain and maximize the overall operations.
  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the company.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure successful product launch; including pricing, packaging, product design, displays, market position, program scope and delivery needs.
  • Monitor and manage activities in the areas of revenue and sales growth; expense, cost and margin control; monthly, quarterly and annual financial goal management.
  • Advise the Owners on key planning issues and make recommendations on important business decisions.
  • Conduct regular meetings with department heads to ensure that priorities are clear and coordination is good.
  • Take charge in high-priority crises.
  • As the key point (face) of management to employees; is the focal point for the creation, implementation and development of a growing culture; represent management with encouragement and professionalism.

Background Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Marketing is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven track record as Chief Operations Officer, Vice President of Operations, President, or Vice President / General Manager.
  • Knowledge of B2B and e-commerce sales.
  • Proven track record of leading an organization that achieved successful revenue growth while maintaining required profitability metrics.
  • Ability to function effectively at both the strategic and tactical levels in the performance of this role.
  • Financial acumen and related analysis skills, including P&L, budget planning, understanding pricing strategies and the ability to create highly accurate revenue forecasting models.
  • Must be articulate, resourceful and focused.  One who exhibits personal integrity, patience, perseverance and persuasiveness.
  • Fifteen years of senior management experience running an organization involving full P&L and growth responsibilities. 
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Highly focused, organized, analytical thinker who is used to substantial autonomy.
  • Flexible to new ideas and new directions.
